Meet the Team
Director and Veterinary Consultant
Sonja (Scout) Chou
Scout is a laboratory animal veterinarian Board certified by the American College of Laboratory Animal Medicine (ACLAM) and currently working in East Asia.
In 2004, after completing her residency in Comparative Medicine, Scout joined Charles River Laboratories in support of Research Models and Services and Preclinical Services within North America and China, as well as served as a consulting veterinarian at different academic institutions in the New England area. In 2012, Scout joined WuXi AppTec in Suzhou as their Executive Director of Veterinary Science and Animal Welfare, and in 2016, joined NYU Shanghai as Clinical Assistant Professor and Director of Laboratory Animal Resources, providing oversight to the animal care and use program as well as technical and veterinary support for NYU faculty members in the NYU-ECNU Institute of Brain and Cognitive Science.
Scout offers institution-specific consultation services to help animal research programs improve operation efficiency and effectiveness. She also performs animal welfare due diligence as part of risk assessment for companies looking to outsource animal research activities in Asia.

Sandra Burlock
As a laboratory animal technician (RLAT) registered with the Canadian Association for Laboratory Animal Science, and Laboratory Animal Technologist (RLATG) and Certified Manager of Animal Resources (CMAR) with the American Association for Laboratory Animal Science, Sandra has over 25 years of experience working with laboratory animal species in industry and academic settings.
In 1998, Sandra started her career in biomedical research at ClinTrials BioResearch (CTBR) in Montreal. She slowly worked her way up the career ladder, from a Research Technician in general toxicology and safety pharmacology to Supervisor to Manager positions, taking up job positions within Charles River and working in Edinburgh in Scotland, as well as in Shanghai, China. She joined WuXi AppTec (Suzhou) as Director of Technical Operations in 2011, and in 2015, started working at NYU Shanghai as the Director of Animal Facility Operations.
With a strong interest in animal research compliance and quality assurance, Sandra enjoys assisting institutions with animal welfare program management, study monitoring, and GLP compliance monitoring.
